B. Dean Parish, age 74, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2008, at the Great River Hospice House at West Burlington. The son of Lawrence E. and Margaret Louise Heins Parish, he was born on January 13, 1934 at Burlington. He married Gladys McElhinney on June 25, 1954 in rural Morning Sun.

Dean graduated from Wapello High School in 1952. At the age of 14 he started working with his father at the Shell Service Station in Wapello. Through the years he worked for Shell, DX, Louisa Oil, the Co-op for Bob Pogemiller, and the Co-op for Farmers Elevator. He retired in 1999.

He was a member of several car clubs including, the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club, the 20th Century Antique Car Club, and the Curve Dash Olds Antique Car Club. He enjoyed cars including his 1905 Olds, 1929 Buick, and the 1951 and 1959 Ford Convertibles. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello.

Dean is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son, Mike Parish of Wapello; three grandchildren, Amber & Mike Spiker, Kelly Parish & R.J. Richardson, and Aaron Parish; a great grandson, Jesse Parish; two brothers, Jerry & Linda Parish of St. Petersburg, Florida and Ralph & Pat Parish of West Burlington; and a sister, ‘Peg’ & Ron Hunt of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald; and a sister, Diane McConahay.

The funeral ceremony for Dean Parish will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Family and friends will also gather for a lunch following the burial at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

A memorial fund has been established.
