Dorthy June Austin, 66, of Wapello, died Friday morning, Jan. 4, 2002, at her home. The daughter of Lloyd H. and Vienna E. Brown Adams, she was born June 17, 1935, at Elleston.

She graduated from Arispe High School in 1953, and attended Simpson College. She married Marvin D. Austin on Aug. 26, 1956, at Arispe. She was a homemaker and had been a substitute teacher and a special aide for a sudent in the Wapello School District. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello. She collected buttons, and enjoyed yard sales and antique trading. She centered her live around her family, the grandchildren being very special.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Sgt. Ken Austin of Manheim, Germany; two daughters, Kelly and husband Monte Lanz of Oakville and Karen and husband Kevin Sinclair of Carlisle; nine grandchildren, Brandon and Drake Austin,Orrin, Kaylee, Vienna, Austin and Adrian Lanz, and Jake and Luke Sinclair; a sister, Ginger Ross of Shannon City; and a brother, Donald Adams of Atlantic. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Frank, and one sister, Helen.

The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Jan.9, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Music was provided by Bev Parsons as the organist and Alana Poage singing "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers included Brandon Austin, Jon Austin, Jeff Austin, Joe Ross, Jerry Weis and Ron Adams. The honorary bearers were the rest of the grandchildren, Drake Austin, Orrin Lanz, Vienna Lanz, Austin Lanz, Adrian Lanz, Jake Sinclair and Luke Sinclair. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of Kech Memorial Library in Wapello.
