Robert McElinney Baird, age 88, of Morning Sun, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, April 14, 1993 at the Morning Sun Care Center. He was born February 2, 1905 near Morning Sun, the son of Joseph and Ida Faris Baird.

He was a graduate of the Mediapolis High School and had attended Iowa State University. He married Anna Arnetta McElhinney on May 28, 1941 at the home of her parents near Morning Sun. She died January 27, 1977. He married Anita Davis Baird on October 20, 1980. She died September 20, 1987.

He had farmed in the Morning Sun area and was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Sharon Reformed Prebyterian Church having served continuously since 1935 as a deacon, elder, and currently as elder emeritus.

Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Noss of Boulder, Colorado; five sons, Richard of Kewanee, Illinois, Joseph of Morning Sun, Melville of Richmond Hill, Georgia, John of Uvalde, Texas, and David of Freeport, Illinois; three step-daughters, Rebecca Smith of Dekalb, Illinois, Mary Kay Baird of Largo, Florida, and Julie Biggerstaff of Ames; two step-sons, William Baird of Dunlap, Illinois and Alan Baird of Sperry; twelve grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul of Morning Sun and Orville of Michigan City, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, one sister, Harriett Pogemiller, and five brothers, Thurlough, Jack, Cecil, Rodman and Bruce.

Funeral service for Robert Baird was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 1993 at the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Schmidtberger officiating. Burial followed at the Sharon Church Cemetery. The casket bearers were Richard Baird, Joseph Baird, Melville Baird, John Baird, David Baird and Shannon Baird. The honorary bearers were Paul Baird and Orville Baird. The flower attendants were Stephanie Baird and Jill Baird.

A Memorial Fund has been established.

The family met with friends Friday evening at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Morning Sun.
