Alice Allen, 86, of the Morning Sun Manor Care Center, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 1991 at the care center.

Born Sept. 12, 1904 at Winfield, she was the daughter of Edward and Irene Webster Hudson. She married Mark McMahon April 24, 1952 at Chicago, Ill. He died May 28, 1965. She married Wayne D. Allen, Sept. 18, 1975, at Morning Sun. He died Dec. 18, 1990.

She was a 1922 graduate of Morning Sun High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1926. She taught at the Pleasant Lawn School near Mt. Pleasant, the Greene Community Schools at Greene, Iowa, the Dwight D. Eisenhower High School at Blue Island, Ill., and at the Morning Sun Community Schools until retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morning Sun, the United Methodist Women and Sorosis and Coterie.

Surviving are three step-sons, Richard W. Allen, Mt. Pleasant, W. John Allen, Arvada, Colo., and Lynn F. Allen, North Syracuse, N.Y.; three step-daughters, Shirley Harfst, San Jose, Calif., and Barbara Allen and Judith Allen, both of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Mrs. Harriet (Dale) Swisher, San Antonio, Texas; 13 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The service for Mrs. Allen was at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Morning Sun with the Rev. Nan K. Skinner officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun.

A memorial has been established for the morning Sun Public Library.
