Former resident dies at 62
Burdette Erwin BROWN, age 62, 416 E. Russell, El Reno, Oklahoma, a former resident of Columbus Junction, died Sunday evening, July 22, 1984, in Branson, Missouri of a coronary heart attack, while enroute to visit his family in Muscatine and Rock Island.
Burdette was the son of the late Vernon W. BROWN and Edna Lucille ROSS-BROWN. He was born in Bard, Iowa, November 14, 1921, and moved to Fedonia, Iowa in July of 1929 where he attended the Fredonia School.
He worked as a movie machinist operator for the Columbus Junction Theater, which was owned by the late D.D. Oakes. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Air Corps in 1941 and served for 3 1/2 years.
His marriage to Elizabeth May PIERCE took place October 12, 1942.
Mr. BROWN was a guard at the Tinker Field Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and later transferred to the Federal Aeronautics Center in Oklahoma City. He had been with the service of the U.S. government for 35 years. He was a member of the Cass Heights Southern Baptist Church of Choctaw, Oklahoma. Mr. Brown had been a well-known musician in Oklahoma City and its neighboring towns as well as the Muscatine and Columbus Junction area.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marline Ann UTLEY of Oklahoma City, one son, Jackie Burdette BROWN of Tuttle, Oklahoma and two adopted daughters Brandy and Amber, both at home; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Mrs. William E. (Pauline) PETTIT and Mrs. Leroy (Mary Catherine) ORRIS, both of Muscatine; and two brothers, Charles V. of Choctaw, Oklahoma and James Neil of Rock Island, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
Services were held at the Wilson Funeral Home at El Reno, Oklahoma, Thursday morning, July 26, 1984 at 10 a.m. and officiated by the Rev. Al Darough of the Southern Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were; Perry Stricklen, Tony Tate, Jim Kubat, Glenn Treece, Ronnie Haskit, and J.D. Neil.
Military honors were held and the casket was closed and draped with the U.S. American Flag and was presented to his wife, Elizabeth.
Burial was at the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home.
