Lewis F. ELDER dies Friday

Lewis Fay ELDER, 80, of Birmingham, Iowa, and former resident of New London, Iowa, died Friday, May 17, 1985, at the New London Care Center after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, 1985, Rev. Duane Olsen officiated. Casket bearers were Harold Meek, LaVerne Phillips, Van Meek, Dick Corry, Jr., Floyd Filson and Tim Simons.

Graveside Masonic rites were conducted by New London Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No 28 at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Burge Cemetery in New London, Iowa. Casket bearers were Lewis Worden, Lester Matheny, Robert Connop, Kenneth Wiley, Wesley Peterson and Floyd Shelledy.

He was born September 5, 1904, at Hadley, Illinois, to Lewis Franklin and Effie COSS-ELDER.

He married Frances WHATELY in 1934 who preceded him in death in 1956. He married Mary SMITH-McBRIDE in 1965.

Mr. ELDER was a member of the Presbyterian Church of New London and the New London Masonic Lodge A.F. A.M. No. 28.

He graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, in 1922. He taught school and coached sports in Iowa and Illinois for 30 years. He worked at the I.A.A.P. in Burlington, Iowal, for ten years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Bruce of Carlsbad, California; three daughters, Mrs. Dayton (Janice) THORNBURG of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Mrs. Ron (Judy) FYE of Mt. Pleasant, Iowas, and Mrs. Tim (Pam) MORRISON also of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; a half-sister, Mrs. Jean EDDENFIELD of Hull, Illinois; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, a wife, three brothers, one sister, and a son.

Memorial has been established at the New London Care Center.
