Mrs. Bertha SCHMOLDT dies

Mrs. Bertha DIECKMAN-SCHMOLDT, 90, Route 2, Letts, died Friday night, June 10, 1988, at Lutheran Homes, Muscatine.

Services were held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home in Muscatine. The Rev. Paul D. Ostrem of Zion Lutheran Church officiated. Beverly Wever was the organist. Pallbearers were Wayne Tomfeld, Dennis, Randy, Kim and William DIECKMAN and Anthony Derksen. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

The former Bertha HAGENAH was born June 5, 1898, at Dornbasch, Germany. She came to Muscatine in 1926 and has lived at Letts since 1980. Her first marriage was to Henry DIECKMAN on May 20, 1920, in Germany. He died in 1947. On April 21, 1949, she married Fred SCHMOLDT in Muscatine. He died in 1956.

She had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church for more than 60 years. Prior to her retirement in 1949, she was employed at the Automatic Button Company.

Survivors include two sons, Herman of Letts; and Klaus of Muscatine; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother and four sisters in Germany.

In addition to her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
