William L. SLATER

William Leonard Slater, age 85, of Wapello, died Friday, July 7, 1995, at the Burlington Medical Center. The son of William B. and Kathryn (KINNEY) SLATER, he was born on December 2, 1909, at Colbrook, Illinois.

On January 30, 1937, he married Agnes BEKKER at Nichols, Iowa.

Mr. SLATER was a retired farmer, farming for many years in the Grandview community. He was a member of the Louisa County Farm Bureau and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wapello.

Survivors include; his wife of Wapello; four sons, Robert of Mediaplolis, Don and Eugene both of Grandview, and Maurice of Muscatine; two daughters, Delores Lid of Strongsville, Ohio, and Janey SLATER of Burlington; seventeen grandchildren and one step-grandchild; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Interment was in the Wapello Cemetery.

Music was provided by Mary Breon, organist, Casket bearers were Harold Williams, Lyle Timmerman, Jeff Tipps, Dave Breon, Bob Hook, and Bob Middaugh.

A Christian Wake Service was held Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. with the family to receive friends till 8:00 p.m. at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

Memorials have been established for the Wapello Fire and Ambulance or for Hope Haven in Burlington.
