Services held for SORDEN

Truman J. SORDEN, 66, Lone Tree, died at home Tuesday morning, March 22, 1988, after an extended illness.

Services were Thursday 11 a.m. at the Lone Tree American Legion, with Rev. Albert Best and Terry Kruse officiating. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sorden Funeral Home.

He was born April 3, 1921, at Webster, Iowa, the son of Lorin and Mary Schilling SORDEN. He married Carol Jean Essley, September 16, 1943, in Spokane, Washington. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Marines in World War II.

SORDEN was a funeral director and furniture retailer in Lone Tree for 40 years. He was a 40-year member of the Funeral Directors Association and the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge 535, and the Kaaba Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star. He was presently serving on the board of directors at Farmers an Merchants Savings Bank, Lone Tree. He was a member of the Lone Tree and Riverside Chamber of Commerces. He had served as a director of the Lone Tree Telephone Company and Lone Tree School Board.

He is survived by his wife and three sons, Stephen of Lewisville, Colorado; Thomas of Lone Tree; and William of Creston; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Lone Tree First Responders and Iowa City Hospice.
