Services: 10a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction. Visitation: 4-7p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, funeral home.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Ruth E. DIRCKS, 88, Columbus Junction, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at Colonial Manor Care Center, Columbus Junction.

The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Columbus Junction United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Dircks was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Columbus City, the daughter of Arthur M. and Edith M. Allen Williams. She married Ralph J. DIRCKS on April 28, 1934, in Illinois. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1994.

She was a telephone operator during World War II. She then worked for Dr. Elmer Groben as an Office Manager in Columbus Junction for 18 years and in Iowa City for 10 years.

She was a member of Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Eastern Star, charter member of Cedar Crest Country Club, past president of Business and Professional Women and was also a member of the Art Guild and Moon Lighters Quartet. She enhoyed painting, for which she won many awards, golfing and raising English Bulldogs.

Survivors include a doughter, Jacquelin G. Scott and husband James of Muscatine; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law, Delbert "Bud" Jordan of Dubugue and Joe Yarbrough of St. Louis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Yvonne; two brothers, Harry "Ike" Williams and Frank Richard "Dick" Williams; and two sisters, Shirley Yarbrough and Patricia Jordan.
