Betty Lou Malcom, age 84, of Wapello, Iowa, died Friday morning, October 6, 2006, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center at Wapello. The daughter of Rodney K. and Myrtle Benson Thompson, she was born August 12, 1922 at Wapello. She married Robert Faye Malcom on May 2, 1940 at Burlington. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1990.

Betty had worked at the IAAP in Middletown during WW II. She had worked as a clerk at Hawkin's Variety and later at Thompson's Variety. She was a cook at Ray & Barb's and later at the Wapello Nursing Home for several years. She also was a clerk at Stella's Smart Shop all at Wapello.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary both of Wapello. Betty enjoyed fishing, dancing, crocheting and quilting as well as being with friends and family especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy & Dick Grimm of Letts; her son Larry & Sally Malcom of Wapello; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert & Crystal Thompson, William & Sharon Thompson, and Kenneth & Dort Thompson all of the Quad Cities; and a sister, Judy St. Claire of Kahoka, Missouri; and two special friends, Verna Taylor and Deloris Wilkerson.

The funeral ceremony for Betty Malcom will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, October 9, 2006, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Parsons Cemetery, rural Wapello.

The family will meet friends 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the Wapello Rescue Unite, and the Iowa City Hospice.
