Pauline Elliott, age 91, of Wapello, died Tuesday evening, January 10, 2006, at Mercy Hospital at Iowa City. The daughter of Paul A. and Edna Cross Derby, she was born December 4, 1914, rural Wapello. She married Leonard C. Elliott on June 6, 1934 at Burlington, Iowa. They resided most all their life in Wapello. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1997.

Pauline was a farm wife for many years and where she was an outstanding gardener. She took great pride in the farming occupation. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and served for many years on the Wapello School Board. She was a loyal sports fan especially of college football and basketball. She has been a lifelong loyal and active member of the Democratic Party. Her family was her true passion.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane & Gary Grouwinkel of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; her grandson, Kevin & Karen Grouwinkel of Mt. Prospect; two granddaughters, Kristin & Phil Spiewak of Rolling Meadows, Illinois and Kari & Dave Monk of Mesa, Arizona; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Collins of Atalissa and Jane Forte of West Liberty; a brother, Woodrow W. Derby of San Diego, California; many nieces, nephews, cousins, good neighbors & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; a brother, Bill Derby; and a sister, Ruth Elder.

The funeral ceremony for Pauline Elliott will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the United Methodist Church at Wapello, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at the Harrison Cemetery, rural Wapello.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. An Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 5:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Race for the Cure and the United Methodist Church.
