Columbus woman to note 100th birthday Feb. 17

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Mrs. Minnie Hendrickson a long time resident of the Columbus Junction community, will observe her 100th birthday Feb. 17.

Mrs. Hendrickson was born in Risum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where she, her two sisters and one brother grew up on a farm. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Christian Friedricksen.

She married Peter Hendrickson Aug. 15, 1898, and that same year came to the United States with her husband. They settled in Muscatine and then moved to Wilton Junction where they lived for a short time before coming to this community in 1909.

Mr. and Mrs. Hendrickson farmed in the Short Creek neighborhood north of Columbus Junction for many years. They had five children, three sons, Lawrence, Herman and Bill, and two daughters. Mrs. Minnie Dircks and Mrs. Annie Lukenbach. Only two sons are now living, Herman of Keosauqua and Bill of Columbus Junction. There are 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hendrickson died in 1928.

Mrs. Hendrickson continued to live on the farm until her early nineties when her eye sight started to fail. She then moved to Columbus Junction and has been making her home at Restcpia since that time.

She was very active all her life and maintained her interest in the family, friends church and community. A trip to Germany a number of years ago was one of the high lights of her life.

She continued to enjoy good health until the last two years when she sustained a broken hip from a fall. Since that time she has been confined mostly to her room, however she still enjoys the daily visits from her son.
