Death of George Beik

The funeral of Mr. George Beik was held from the late residence, near Grandview, on Wednesday at 2 o'clock p.m. The high esteem in which he was held was attested by the very large attendance and the eloquent expressions of sympathy shown upon this occasion. The sermon was delivered by Elder L.F. Chamberlin, of Iowa City, from 1st Cor. 15:26. The Elder made prominent reference to the victories achieved by the christian and this kind hearted father, who found his greatest earthly paradise in the bosom of his family, with his children around him.

The remains were interred in the Grandview cemetery. The I.O.O.F. of Columbus Junction, of which he was a member, assisted in the last sad rites.

Mr. Beik was born near Baden, Germany, Aug. 18, 1839; came with his parents to New York July 5, 1845, and to Iowa Aug. 18, 1846. He was married to Miss Anna M. Eiesman Dec. 17, 1865, who survives him and administered faithfully to his happiness and comfort to the last. He was converted to Christ in the little brick Bethel church of God at Grandview Dec., 1862, under the labors of Elder P. Wertz.

Those who mourn his loss, besides a weeping community, are two brothers, Jacob and Lewis; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Bing; his wife, nine children: Sarah C. Jarvis, Fruitland; Lutia A. Polland, and W.F. Beik, Letts; Maggie Alma Shew, Lola M. Dodder, Mattie A. O;dell, Hilton H., Daniel A., Miss Elizabeth A., all of near Wapello. Quite a number of the most skilled physicians were called to treat Mr. Beik, but the pale horse and his rider delivered the final summons at the early dawn of Monday morning, March 25, 1907, and he left us on the shore weeping, when he bade the world adieu at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 7 days.
