Location of documentation of residence

My great grandfather was Joseph Charles Morehead, b. PA 1842, orphaned at age 11, came to Iowa in about 1854. He attended school there. Married in about 1863 to Matilda Larkin. Have not been able to find documents to support any of this, reported in a pioneer history of Klickitat County, WA where he settled and died.
