I'm looking for any information on what happened to Ava Mae (or Ava Mary) SPECK, who was born 2/12/1867 in Cedar Rapids, Linn Co, Iowa. Both of her parents died when she was under 10 yrs old. She and some of the other younger children may have been spread out to relatives and neighbors. Her father was David SPECK, b: 8/24/1821 in Ohio, and resided in Cedar Rapids, Linn, Iowa from about 1850 until he died between 1872 and 1875 (in Cedar). He had 2 wives, Julia Ann KREIDER, who died in the same area 4/12/1860, and then a second wife Theodoria Mary REED, who also died in the same area on May 26, 1872. Are there any local newspapers from that time, or access to local death records for the parents that might shed light on their death, or that may reflect what happened to the younger children? I have heard that she was adopted by a Daniel McMackin family, but can not find record of them.
