Sandra K. Becicka, 63, of West Des Moines, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Rogers Grove Cemetery, rural Ely.

Sandy was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Harold and Velma Hofmaster. She was a graduate of Prairie High School, Cedar Rapids.
Sandy married Ronald Becicka on Nov. 9, 1961, in Solon. They farmed near Mount Vernon for 30 years. During those years Sandy was a leader of Camp Fire, 4-H and Linn County Porkettes. They moved to West Des Moines in 1990. She recently retired from working at Wells Fargo.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Ron; mother, Velma Hofmaster of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Donna (Gregg) Nichols of Columbia, Mo.; sons, Brian (Jane Ann) Becicka of Charles City and Daryl Becicka of West Des Moines; sister, Janice (Jim) McCrabb of West Liberty; brother, Rick (Pat) Hofmaster of Sacramento, Calif.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Brian and Cheryl Dake; and nine grandchildren, Genny, Charlene, Bennett, John, Cecilia, Rosalyn and Carl Becicka and Ronnie and Audrey Nichols.

Preceding her in death were her father, Harold; and her sister, Eileen Grinder, who died June 23, 2006.

Sandy’s passions were wildlife photography and genealogy. She took thousands of photographs and created many family history books.

Sandy will be remembered for her bright smile and extraordinary way of connecting with people. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
