Survivors include his children, Becky (John) Roberts, David (Betty) Rundall, Jodi (Dennis) Warner, Jill Rundall, and Jennifer Rundall; grandchildren, Rachael Jenks, Joey (Andrew) Stuart, Sierra (Kit Clinton-Baker) Roberts, Anthony (Alexandra) Darby, Forrest Roberts, Katie (Jace) Luoma, Kella (Travis Stolp) Warner, Stephania Rundall, and Cesar Rundall; and great-grandchildren, Theo Stuart, Marley Jenks, and Henry Stuart.
He is also survived by his siblings, Duane Rundall, Ivan Rundall, Liz Keleher, many special nieces and nephews and his special friend and companion, Lois Dye.
Larry was born on March 2, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the eldest son of Robert and Dorothy (Grisham) Rundall. He had five siblings: Mary Louise, Irene (Liz), Beverly, Duane, and Ivan. He grew up in Iowa, and graduated from Marion High School in 1958. He married Judy Leichsenring in 1959, having five children during their marriage. Soon after high school, Larry went to work for Collins Radio before becoming a long-haul truck driver for Briggs and Yellow Freight. He also had other jobs to support his young family. Later on, Larry worked as a real estate agent, mortgage broker, and kept busy doing repair work and carpentry.
Larry was the kind of guy you would call “Mr. Fix It”. His engineering mind could find solutions to almost any problem with the highest of standards and quality. Larry was amazingly organized, tidy and meticulous. If something needed to be fixed or improved, Larry would know how to do it. He sometimes seemed gruff with a tough exterior, but was charming and had a soft spot for animals, especially Doberman Pinschers.
In 1987, he was remarried to Janine Schmidt. After retirement, Larry and Janine moved to Texas where he designed, built, and served as general contractor for their retirement home. Larry’s work ethic would never rest; he found himself driving school bus and often helping others with home improvement projects. Larry enjoyed reading, walking his dog, cars and NASCAR. His family will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy; the mother of his children, Judy, great-granddaughter, Charlotte Stuart; wife, Janine; siblings, Bev Carsner and Mary Pollock; and his faithful dogs, Lady, Shaka, and Kenya.
Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospice.
