Alan L. Sponar, 64, of rural Amana, died Saturday August 20, 2022, following a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius Catholic Church by Rev. Jon Seda. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may gather for a visitation on Monday from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. at the church.

There are no immediate survivors. Alan was preceded in death by his mother Jean, father Francis, and brother Kevin.

Alan Lynn Sponar was born July 5, 1958 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the first son of Francis and Jean (Bahndorf) Sponar. He graduated from Amana High School in 1976 and then attended Kirkwood Community College, majoring in Communications Electronics, graduating with honors and high honors. Alan was holder of a General Class Radiotelephone Operator's license and a commercial FCC license, which he got while attending Kirkwood, which eventually became a lifetime license. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, and served in several committees over the years. Alan worked as an Electronics Technician for most of his life, providing technical support for a TV shop, Appliance Factory, Broadcast MSO, and a computer shop.
