The Marion Sentinel Thursday July 14, 1910
Mary Elizabeth West was born in Orange, New Jersey, November 28th, 1936, and passed away at her home in Marion, Iowa, July 9th, 1910. In 1858 she was married to Jacob Heer. In 1866 she, with her family, came to Marion, where she continued to reside until her death. In 1873 she was married to Mr. Jacob Crowl. She was the mother of three children, Chas. C. Heer, of Des Moines; Mrs. J.C. Cunningham, of Davenport, and Raymond C. Crowl, who died in 1879.
Mrs. Crowl was in every way a noble, heroic and worth woman. Early in life she became a Christian and has been for many years a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and was one of its most faithful and devoted workers, always showing her interest in every department of church work, and doing her best while her strength permitted. She was a great sufferer, and had a very sad affliction, but she bore it patiently, always looking at the bright side and making the best of things. She was respected and appreciated by all who knew her, and her husband, children and friends have the sympathy of the people of the community.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the house, conducted by Rev. S.R. Beatty. The music was furnished by the Mrs. V.G. Shumack, Mrs. S.N. Parsons, J.T. Raymond and E.J. Esgate. There was a large attendance of friends, the Woman's Relief Corps attending in a body, and there were many floral offerings.
