Melvin W. Gosnell, “Mr. Bill”, 78, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at his home. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends and family from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Tammy Gauer.

Bill was born on December 11, 1943, in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the son of James Henry and Alma Margaret (Nelson) Gosnell. He graduated from Ottumwa High School. On June 21, 1963, Bill was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” JoAnne Pickens. He was a hard worker, working as a supervisor at Collins Radio and ran Bill Gosnell & Son Hardwood Floors. Bill was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed golfing, watching all sports, especially the Cubs, Packers, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bill loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Pat Gosnell of Marion; daughter, Shelley (Greg) Atkinson of Kansas City, Missouri; son, John (Karen) Gosnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Leah (David) Martin of Phoenix, Arizona, Josh (Naomi) Atkinson, Sr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Seth Atkinson of Ames, Iowa, Anna Atkinson of Phoenix, Arizona, Joe Gosnell of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Sam Gosnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one great-grandson, Joshua Atkinson, Jr. of Kansas City; brother, Jim Gosnell; and sister, Carol Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Gosnell; sister-in-law, Karen (Boyer) Gosnell; and brother-in-law, Norman Simmons, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill’s memory may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice.
