Lorna M. Rump (1938-2022)

Lorna M. Rump, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a Rosary at 5 p.m. Memorial Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Private family burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Lorna was born December 19, 1938, in Ossian, Iowa, the daughter of Al and Louise (Schroeder) Lansing. In 1956, she graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Cedar Rapids. Lorna was united in marriage to James F. Rump on December 27, 1958, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital until her retirement. Lorna was a very active member of St. John XXII Catholic Church and the Prairie Gardens Cooperative. She was involved in Mercy HeartPrints, Green Square Park Meals, and was an election worker for Linn County. Lorna enjoyed playing cards, shopping, cooking, and vacationing with James. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, James Rump of Cedar Rapids, Robert Rump of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mary Rump of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Holly, Zach, Olivia, Jordane, Madeline, Alexandra, Sophia, Jameson, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Elijah, August, and Autumn; daughter-in-law, Kara Rump of Newhall, Iowa; her sister, Mary Lechtenberg of Ossian; and special nieces and nephews, Mike and Lori Lechtenberg, Patty and Gary Lien, and Steve and Judy Lechtenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Louise Lansing; husband, James in 2019; son, Gregory Rump; brother, Cletus Lansing; and in-laws, Urban and Margaret “Leone” Rump.

Memorials may be directed to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
