Connie JoAnn Bevins peacefully passed on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Living Center West after a short illness. Per her request, there will be no funeral or services. Connie’s life will be celebrated with a picnic at the Zoo Hill Pavilion in Bever Park on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Connie was born June 14, 19?? (Mom always said it was “nobody’s business” how old she was!!) in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was united in marriage to Jack Bevins on November 16, 1968. They made their home in Cedar Rapids and raised their two sons, John, and Tim, on the SE side. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

In her early years, Connie was a beautician. Once she had her boys, she went to work as a baker for the Cedar Rapids Community School District so she could be home with them when they weren’t in school.

The greatest love in Connie’s life was her family. She always enjoyed holidays and having gatherings at the park. She especially loved her grandchildren, who she helped raise. She had a deep love for all animals, especially her Pomeranians: Snooper, Duffy, Peppy, Cuddles, and Sassy. She also never met a dessert she didn’t like.

Connie is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, John and Tim (Amy); brothers, Jim (Patty) Fletcher and Kent (Lisa) Walton; grandchildren, Zachary, Bianca, and Spencer; one great-grandchild, and several nephews and nieces. We will all miss the warmth and humor she brought into our lives.

Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Kenneth Walton; her in-laws, Clarence and Ruth Bevins; and her first husband, Bert Long.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Living Center West, and the nurses from the Mercy Hospice. The loving care given to Connie during the last weeks of her life will never be forgotten.

Memorials in Connie’s name can be made directly to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or Hospice of Mercy.
