Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette Thursday January 10, 1929
Meril Clarence Clark, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Clark, 229 North Seventh street, and a carried and newsboy for The Evening Gazette and Republican, died at a local hospital at 4:30 a.m. today following an attack of appendicitis. He was stricken on his sixteenth birthday. Faithful and well liked his thoughts were ever on his duties and a short time before the end came he wanted to leave the hospital to take his papers.
Young Clark was born in Blairstown Jan. 4, 1913 and with his parents he came to Cedar Rapids a little more than a year ago from Marion where they had resided four years. He was a member of the Ranger Pioneers of the Congregational church at Marion, and was a student at the Adams school here.
Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Frank Flidr, Ada, Dorothy, and two brothers, Earl and Bobbie all of this city. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Spurgeon, Shellsburg.
Funeral services will be held in the Clauson chapel at 2:30 Saturday. The Rev. Harold Carlson of the Congregational church at Marion will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery, Marion.
