Mary Den Beste, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on March 13, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 16th at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 17th at First Lutheran Church: 1000 3rd Ave. S.E., Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary was born May 1st, 1940, in Wall Lake, Iowa to Reuben and Edith (Wood) Hedberg. She graduated from Chatfield High School in 1958. Mary’s first love was her family and raising four children. She had a strong Christian faith and was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church. She owned a restaurant in Sheldon, Iowa called Mary’s Hamburger Shop and had a long career at St. Luke’s Hospital for 32 years. She loved cooking, gardening, animals, entertaining for friends and family, and the occasional nickel slot.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael Den Beste, John Den Beste, Lynette (Brian) Weberg all of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Curtis Den Beste of Iowa City, IA; nine grandchildren; two granddaughter-in-laws; and one great-grandchild, with another expected in August.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Edith Hedberg, her brother Gerald (Sonny) Hedberg, and her beloved dog, Wrinkles.
