Duane Edward Schlatter, 82, of Springville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Florida. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Springville, with a reception to follow. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. A private family burial with full military honors will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Duane was born on January 21, 1940, in Hawkeye, Iowa the son of Edwin and Leona (Schult) Schlatter. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1957. Duane served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. He married Wanda Simonsen on April 15, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Marion. She preceded him in death, on February 9, 2008. He married Pauline Banks on July 24, 2011 in Springville.

Duane worked at Rockwell Collins for 43 years. He owned SNS Hardware/Laundry/Storage. Duane was a farmer, a member of the Jaycees, a Springville volunteer fireman, and served on the Springville city council. Duane enjoyed farming, picking wild asparagus, four wheeling, walking his dog, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, miniature golfing, family gatherings and trips to Florida. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Duane is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Pauline; six children, Debi Vaughn, Jeff (Alison) Schlatter, Sandi Emry (Darian Comstock), Trish (Ted) Ellison, Jon (Melissa) Schlatter, and Felicia Schlatter; 16 grandchildren, Josh, Stephanie, Sarah, Jeffery, Aaron, Jeanette, Paul, Melanie, Dana, Harriett, Sydney, Zach, Kyle, Kaleb, Malia, and Anya; 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and siblings, Lois Lehs, Joan Goldsberry, Harry Simonsen, Weaver (Margaret) Simonsen, Narda Murphy, Phyliss Curtis, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda; and grandson, Justin Vaughn.
