Ray was born on December 7, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Raymond Albert and Helen Ann (Przychodzin) Cull. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in Chicago and went on to obtain his master’s degree in Education from Iowa State Teacher’s College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa. On December 30, 1961, Ray was united in marriage to Harriet Marie McKeown in Waterloo, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Brian, Mary Ann, and John. Ray worked as the High School Principal for the Alburnett High School for more than 30 years. School kept him very busy, working endless days, nights, and weekends. He was a true loyal Chicago Cubs fan. For several years, Ray volunteered countless hours making handcrafted rosaries to give to missionaries. By the time he was nearing the end of that chapter in his life, he had generously furnished all the supplies and made over 23,000 rosaries to give away. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ray is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years, Harriet Cull of Alburnett; two children, Brian (Susan) Cull of Metamora, Illinois, and John (Valerie) Cull of Alburnett; three grandchildren, Molly Cull, Kevin Cull, and Ethan Cull; and one sister, Susan Merkner of San Antonio, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter in 2018, Mary Ann Cull.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ray’s memory may be directed to either St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion or to the Alburnett Fire Department.
