Susanna Ellen Smith, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services:

11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Rachel Kracht (William Miller) of Fort Madison and David Smith of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Caleab Settles of Burlington; siblings, Mary (Jim) Stovall, John (Karol) Schurman, Richard (Rosemary) Schurman Jr. and Sam Schurman; and many nieces and nephews.

Sue was born November 15, 1954, in Shelbyville, Ill., the daughter of Richard and Mary Kathryn (Smith) Schurman. She earned her bachelor degree from Blackburn College. Sue spent over 20 years as an income maintenance worker for the Iowa Department of Human Services.

She enjoyed creating crafts, knitting, sewing, and loving her cat, Trixie. Sue was an active member and strong supporter of Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be remembered for her kind generosity and making friends with everyone she met. Sue also loved to travel, especially Branson, Savanah and New Orleans.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; and son, Benjamin.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
