JAMES "JIM" LUDERS

James "Jim" Luders, 72, of Deming, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 2, 2021, in Phoenix, Ariz. Services will be in the Spring of 2022. Burial: Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family. Jim's full obituary may be found at TeahenFuneralHome.com.

Jim is survived by his adopted family of the heart, Rocky, (Stephanie) Christina, Austin and James; sister, Dianne Weldon of Ankeny; brother, William (Pat) Luders, Shenandoah, Va.; niece, Jennifer (Neal) Edwinson of Bettendorf; four nephews, Jeff (Heather) Luders of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nick (Erin) Luders of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Timm (Kelsie) Luders of Staunton, Va.; and Andy Luders of Williamsburg, Va.; many great-nieces and great-nephews; a Netherland Dwarf bunny, Bandie Andy Bear, born May 28, 2013; and many longtime friends and extended family throughout the country.

He was preceded in death by Cathy in 2019; his father, Albert Luders in 2005; his mother in 1988; his brother, Bob Luders in 2003; and special four-legged kids.

James Warren Luders was the second son of four children born Jan. 3, 1949, to Johanna (Abben) and Albert Otto Luders, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He graduated in 1967 from Cedar Falls High School and from Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Mo., in 1978 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. Later attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo., for post-graduate studies.

Jim was pastor at Spencer Creek Baptist Church in Vandalia, Mo., interim pastor at Bethel Baptist Church, Independence, associate pastor at Victory Baptist Church, Davenport, and provided pulpit supply at many east Iowa churches. Jim also worked as St. Luke's Home Care as a home care aide/certified nurse's assistant and later as a residential counselor with REM of Iowa Community Services, Hiawatha. He was also involved with the Big Brothers organization. Jim was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he met Cathy Orrick; they were married on April 27, 1991.

Jim and Cathy enjoyed traveling, touring Civil War and presidential sites, and visiting friends across the country and snow birding in the winter. Jim had large collection of old and silent movies that he liked to watch. The couple regularly hosted Christmas gatherings for family and friends.
