Elaine Dice, 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at her home. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Elaine was born July 31, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Jesse and Elza (Kalkoffen) Curtis. She graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in art and music. On May 4, 1958, Elaine was united in marriage to Roger Irwin Dice in Cedar Rapids. She was a piano teacher until she was 88 years old, and the organist at Cedar Christian Church for over 65 years. She worked hard to raise her two boys.

Elaine enjoyed attending choir practice on Thursday nights. She was an independent woman ahead of her time who enjoyed the art of Goju-Ryu with her longtime partner, Gene Phillips. Elaine was an artist and loved painting murals and portraits. She also enjoyed being outdoors, roaming the timber with her dogs, gardening, and relaxing by the fishpond. Elaine cherished family get-togethers and holidays. Above all else, she loved her sons and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Dan (Lisa) Dice and Dale (Tina) Dice, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Erik (Kaitlin) Dice of Palo, Iowa, and Emily Dice of Hiawatha; stepgrandchildren, Trent (Shannon) Ozburn and Jared Ozburn, all of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Owen, Lincoln, and Brinley Dice; and nephew, Ted (Tane) Simmons of Shellsburg, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Elza Curtis; husband, Roger; longtime partner, Gene Phillips; sister, Catherine Simmons; nephew, Chris Simmons; and niece, Diana Simmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ghosh Foundation.
