Obituary

Leo L. Halsch, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home on Friday, July 9, 2021. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his very special significant other, Jane Haigh; children, Clif Halsch, Doug (Kari) Halsch, Lisa (Stan) Pumphrey, and Holly (Joe) Corleto; Jane’s children, Julie Haigh and Eric Haigh; grandchildren, Stacey (Sergio) Halsch, Alec (Jess) Halsch, Brad Pumphrey, Keith Pumphrey, Austin (Amber) Sosebee, Elizabeth Cargle, Jennifer (Josh) Shives, Kayleigh Chambers, Nicholas Chambers, Johnathan (Imonie Jones) Gaughan, Justin Gaughan, Zach Haigh, and Zoey Haigh; great-grandchildren, Gavin, London, Christian, Natalie, Hayden, Alayna, Aubrey, Cole, and Cash.

Also survived by his brother, Garrin (Peggy) Halsch; sister, Pat (Marv) Wilderman; former spouse, Elaine Halsch; and numerous nieces and nephews

Leo was born December 18, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leo V. and Helen (Privatsky) Halsch. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1957 and DeVry University in 1959. After college he spent several years in California working for CIT Financial. Leo found his way back to Cedar Rapids working primarily for WMT and KCRG as a television engineer. Later he worked in RV sales in North Carolina and Florida. He also operated a plating shop and in retirement, he managed his rental properties in Cedar Rapids.

Leo loved being outdoors. He spent several months every year black diamond snow skiing at Tiger Run in Breckenridge, as well as camping and mushroom hunting. Leo’s sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Roberta (Larry) Klima; sister-in-law, Jean Halsch, grandson, Michael Sosebee; daughter-in-law, Elysha Halsch; and his faithful companion, Freddie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of Mercy.
