Fred William Young, 54, of 1017 Ninth avenue SE, died at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1889, in Burlington, and had lived in Cedar Rapids for the last 51 years. He was a member of the Tribe of Ben Hur, number 12. He was employed as a grading contractor.
Surviving are his wife, Emma; one daughter, Mrs. Opal Prior, Cedar Rapids; one son, Cpl. Fred Young, jr., New Guinea; two brothers, Frank and W.C., both of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Mazie Rigby, Cedar Rapids; one half sister, Mrs. J.G. Douda, Cedar Rapids; two half brothers, W.A. Goodwater, Cedar Rapids, and H.L. Goodwater, address unknown; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Beatty chapel, with the Rev. W.C. Porter officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial park. Friends may call at Beatty's.
