Cresco Plain Dealer Mar. 3, 1916 P-4 C-1

Death of Prominent W. O. W. Officer.
That John W. Geiger had passed away Saturday evening at his home in Sioux City was the message received Monday by F. D. Mead. Death resulted from acute Bright's disease, although Mr. Geiger has been ill most of the winter. The deceased was at the time of his death State Manager of Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota for the Woodmen of the World which position he had filled for about fifteen years. In this capacity, he has been a frequent visitor to Cresco and has a wide acquaintance here as he was also prominent in Masonic circles and a member of the Elks.
Mr. Geiger was born in Pennsylvania in 1850 and leaves to mourn his loss an aged mother, a wife and seven daughters.
The funeral was held on Tuesday at Cedar Rapids where one of his married daughters resides and which was Mr. Geiger’s home for several years.
Before entering upon insurance work Mr. Geiger occupied Congregational pulpits at Mason City, Ottumwa and other Iowa points.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Nov. 7, 1850 and died Feb. 26, 1916. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
