JOY ANN LUKO

Marion

Joy Ann Luko, 84, of Marion, passed away from cancer on April 4, 2021, at the St. Luke's Transitional

Center in Cedar Rapids. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, with a funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Joy will be laid to rest by her husband's side at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Due to COVID-19, all guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Joy was born on Sept. 29, 1936, to Jack and Aline Owens in Davis County. She graduated from Pulaski High School and attended Ottumwa Business College. In 1954, Joy decided to try out for the female singing part on Iowa's "Bill Luko Radio Show." She won the position and that is when mom and dad's love story began. Joy was united in marriage to William Luko in 1955, in Salem, Arkansas, and moved to the Marion/Cedar Rapids area. Their love of music lasted throughout the years, evident from the sounds that echoed from the white house on Brockman Avenue. Mom would be playing the piano with dad by her side, playing his guitar while singing their favorite songs.

Joy was employed at Square D for 44 years, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion. Her hobbies included reading books, solving crossword puzzles, and working with flowers. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joy is survived by her four children, Rene (Brian) Horak of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Linda Luko of Ringsted, Iowa, Karen (Rick) Hopson of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and William (Rina) Luko of Walden, N.Y. Also left to cherish her memory are her 14 grandchildren, Danielle, Whitney, Jamie, Revel, Shad, Libby, Ashley, Ridge, Amber, Tess, Zachery, Haley, Taylor and Hope; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, William; and sister, Opal.

Mom and our family extend a heartfelt thank-you to her friends, caretakers, and neighbors for their love and support throughout the last chapter of her life's journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
