VERA E. IREY
Las Vegas, Nev.

Vera E. Irey, 95, passed away in North Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday March 17, 2021. There will be a family graveside service in the Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah.
She was born in 1925 in Luverne, Iowa,
to Arthur W. Dimler and H. Violet Northrop. She was a graduate of Luverne, Iowa, Community High School, where she and her two older sisters played girls
six-on-six basketball. During her freshman year, all three played forward at the same time. Vera attended nursing training at
Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She married Don F. Irey in 1956, after which they settled in Clarence, Iowa, to raise their family. Vera was active in multiple civic organizations, including Clarence School Music Aids, Cub Scouting, Cedar County Democratic party and leadership in the American Legion Auxiliary. Professionally, she worked for the Iowa Economic Opportunity Board of Eastern Iowa, as well as a professional tour director to destinations including Nashville, Washington, D.C. and Detroit.
During the 1980s, Vera and husband Don retired and moved to Las Vegas, then subsequently to St. George, Utah, where they lived until Don's passing in 1998. Vera later moved to North Las Vegas, having worked for Walmart in both Utah and Las Vegas as a second career. Vera was a formidable cribbage player, as her family can attest. She was a talented knitter, seamstress and bowler. She loved to travel by motorcar and drove herself everywhere until the last year of her life.
Vera was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, having fulfilled multiple callings and volunteer assignments throughout her life.
Survivors include son, Mark Andrews of Nevada; daughters, Donna Andrews Knight of Utah, Kay Irey of Texas and Denise Kruckenberg-Wodka of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.
