SHIRLEY MAE (POST) PANTINI Marion Shirley Mae (Post) Pantini, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, conducted by Pastor Jim Langley and the Rev. Dr. Howard Chapman. Private burial will take place at a later date at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. The family requests that those in attendance wear casual attire to the visitation and funeral service. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Shirley was born on July 20, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Eldon and Margaret (Lassen) Post. She attended Marion High School and went on to receive her degree at the Iowa State Teacher's College (University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She worked at Marion High School from 1958 to 1960, and Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg American High School in Germany from 1960 to 1962. On Aug. 18, 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Anthony J. "Tony" Pantini. She then began working for Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield, N.J., until moving to Marion in 1967. She returned to Marion High School, working until 1978, Linn-Mar High School from 1978 to 1990, and then was Curriculum Coordinator and Equity Coordinator at Linn-Mar, retiring in 2000. Shirley was a member of the Linn County Historical Commission, the Marion Civil Rights Commission, the Iowa Department of Education Educational Equity Committee, the University of Northern Iowa Alumni Association Board, and an elder at First Presbyterian Church. Her honors include the Marion Independent Schools Hall of Fame and Linn-Mar Community Schools Hall of Fame. The Shirley Pantini Equity Award is given each spring to a deserving person at Linn-Mar. Shirley is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Anthony J. "Tony" Pantini of Marion; four children, Andrew Pantini of Marion, Amy (Dwight) Hubbard of San Jose, Calif., Wayne (Deb) Pantini of Creston, Iowa, and T.J. Pantini of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Sydney and Emma Pantini of Creston; sister, Barbara (Larry) Jones of Sioux City, Iowa; and her beloved pets, Mickey and Minnie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Margaret Post; and daughter-in-law, Lorilynne Pantini. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
