PENELOPE 'PENNY' JONES BJORNSEN
Cedar Rapids

Penelope "Penny" Jones Bjornsen passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021, at the age of 85 in Naples, Fla. Penny was the only child of Haverly and Jane Jones and was born in Minneapolis, Minn. Penny spent the majority of her life in Cedar Rapids and was a graduate of Franklin High School in 1953, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Larry. She then went on to study and graduate from Stephen's College in Columbia, Mo. In July 1956. she and Larry were married in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Penny was a volunteer for many years as a buyer in the gift shop at Mercy Hospital. Penny loved the sport of golf and it was through golf that she made many endearing friendships over the years. Penny enjoyed golfing with her friends and with her husband at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. Penny and Larry also enjoyed golfing in the winters with their many friends at their home at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Fla., and then later in life at their home at Wild Cat Run in Estero, Fla. However, no matter where they lived, Penny always loved to return to Cedar Rapids in the summertime and considered that her "home."
Family meant everything to Penny. She loved to travel and vacation with her family and creating many lasting family memories by taking trips to Lake Okoboji in northern Iowa, spending time together in Florida and enjoying family cruises. Penny's greatest joy was spending time with her four children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; her four children, Teri (Paul) Zahour, Tracy Powers, Kristi (Gary) McCauley and Mike (Betsy) Bjornsen; and also her beloved dog, Daisy.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Park Home. Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Private family service will be held the following day at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
