William H. Perdew, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. A private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Due to Covid-19 a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Entrusted with arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bill was born May 14, 1932 in Valparaiso, Indiana, the son of Everett and Margaret (Lannin) Perdew. He graduated from Hammond High School in 1950 and worked for J.C. Penney Company from 1950 until his retirement in 1992. Bill served in the United States Army in the 25th Infantry Division in Korea from 1952-1954. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 298 (Marion). On November 26, 1955, Bill met his “one and only” Donna R. Banta while working at JC Penney Company. Bill and Donna were united in marriage on November 26, 1955. Bill loved to golf and spent many years walking the courses with friends.
He is survived by his wife Donna, four sons; Michael, Scott (Rosie), Gary, Kevin, and one daughter, Cathy; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Alan, in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces, and many wonderful neighbors and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, and sister Sherrie.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for the compassionate care Bill received in his final weeks.
