Killed at Cedar Rapids.
Sunday morning at an early hour Wm. Gibson, a Burlington railroad engineer who pulled the Decorah passenger for several years up to the fall of 1894, was killed at the depot in Cedar Rapids. He had just returned from West Liberty and was examining his engine, when the switch engine connected with the sleepers on the rear of the train to transfer them to another track. The force of the connection moved the train about a foot. Gibson had his arm thorough one of the drive wheels in such a way that his head and shoulders were drawn down between the wheel and the main rod. In order to extricate the body it was necessary to remove the rod. An examination showed that death had resulted from a broken neck. Mr. Gibson leaves a wife. The funeral takes place this afternoon at 2 o’clock.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born June 2, 1853 and died January 5, 1896. He is buried in the Murdoch-Linwood Cemetery.
