Dennis Shebetka, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, from pancreatic cancer, in his home. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Private family burial with military rites will be in Shueyville Cemetery. The family asks that everyone attending wear a mask and practice social distancing. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Dennis was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, the son Elmer and Helen (Erusha) Shebetka. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Denny served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966. He was a man of many talents and many words. When you wanted something done you called Denny. Bulldozing, backhoeing, lawn mowing, tree removal, electrical, he could do it all. He had a passion for moving dirt. He was on the go from sunup to sundown, seeing how much he could accomplish in a day. He loved adventures, including riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, going hang gliding, roller blading and snow skiing. He was a perfectionist, an organizer, decorator, cook, wine maker and enjoyed helping people. Many have said Denny was one-of-a-kind. A favorite phrase of Denny's was "It is, what it is."
Denny is survived by his daughter, Kathy Shebetka of Solon; his grandchildren, Kourtney and Cole Cech; his sister, Donna Boswell of Indiana; three nieces and their children, many cousins and a special friend, Barb Vobejda.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, John Boswell.
