In 1972, he graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Iowa, then moved to Cedar Rapids to further his education. He married Barbara Kohl in 1975. Phil was a talented millwright working at Farmstead Foods until their closing, and eventually spending 15 years at Quaker Oats before his retirement. Phil and Barb enjoyed lots of time living the cabin life and cat fishing on the river.
Phil was devoted to his family and left the world better than he found it. He was a man of few words, but the words mattered when he spoke. Phil loved with all he had and unconditionally, leaving a McCurdy legacy for his kids and grandkids to continue. A legacy of being true to who you are and the family name you bear.
