CENTRAL CITY--March 17.-- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Glass, aged 74, life-long resident of Iowa, will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church here, the Rev. C.E. Luce of Rockford, Iowa, Officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Clark cemetery.
Mary Jane Glass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wright, was born in Jackson county, Iowa, Feb. 1, 1857. She was the fifth in a family of fifteen children and was the first one born in American, four children having been born in England previous to the family's removal to this country.
When she was eleven years of age her parents moved to Linn county where she grew to young womanhood,. She was married to Chauncey W. Glass and some years were spent in Pennsylvania. They later went to Nebraska. Five children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. They moved to Central City where Mr. Glass died in August[sic], 1900.
Four years ago Mrs. Glass suffered a stroke from which she never recovered and she lay helpless since that time in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.D. Minehart. A nurse was in attendance constantly. Two weeks ago her condition became worse and she gradually failed, death occurring about 2 a.m. Monday morning. Of a family of eight brothers and seven sisters, the first death came with then youngest was past fifty years of age.
Surviving her are three children: Clara, Mrs. R.D. Minehart; Esther, Mrs. Homer Hill of Cedar Rapids; Fern, Mrs. C.M. Whiting of Marshalltown. There are four grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters as follows: John A. Wright of Maquoketa; Fred and Charles Wright of Correctionville; Thomas R. and Albert R. and Mrs. C.B. Robinson of Center Point; Mrs. Alice Robinson of Toronto, Canada.
