Richard Henry Stevenson, resident of Sigourney, Iowa, and well-known in Marion and vicinity, died May 12, at the age of 81 years. The deceased was born in Cambridge City, Wayne county, Indiana, Oct. 14, 1831.
In 1850, at the age of 19 years, he crossed the plains to California with a company in search of gold, returning in four years.
He was united in marriage to Martha J. Orr of Laporte, Indiana, Feb. 15, 1855, and moved to Iowa the same year, where he has since resided, except two years spent in California with his family.
He is survived by five children, one son and four daughters, also one brother, Joseph, of Robins, Iowa.
For the past twenty-five years he has been a successful veterinary surgeon, practicing most of the time at Sigourney, Iowa, but on account of old age and failing health, the past year was compelled to give up his practice.
In 1876 he united with the German Baptist church near Robins, Iowa, of which he was a faithful member until the time of his death.
The remains were brought to Robins and laid to rest in the Dunkard cemetery beside that of his father and mother.
