LUCILLE (AOSSEY) BARBER
Cedar Rapids

Lucille (Aossey) Barber, 92, passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, following a brief illness. Lucille was the third of 10 children born to Abdoo and Hacebe Aossey.
She was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids and, in addition to participating in many fund-raising efforts for the Islamic Center through the preparation and sale of delicious Lebanese foods, she was an excellent cook in her own right. She will also be remembered by many Cedar Rapids residents for her friendly service and the delicious soups she prepared for her brother's Starlite Room.
A fabulous three-day celebration of Lucille's 90th birthday was held in West Palm Beach, Fla. Her large extended family came from all over the United States to honor her and she had the time of her life. She thoroughly enjoyed her winter trips to Arizona to visit friends and family. She is remembered by her family as the sweetest, hardest-working mother, sister, grandmother and aunt ever and will be dearly missed by all.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Albert Kalell; her husband, Yvonne (Barb) Barber; her sisters, Souad Cheetany and Mary Joslin; and brother, David Aossey. She is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie (Mike) Wilt; granddaughter, Lydia Breitbach; and three great-grandsons; stepdaughter, Charlee Kimm and family; step-granddaughters, Danielle Bailey, Nicole Toy and their families; siblings, James (Alya) Aossey, Jumelie Cherif, Zakea Adams, Anace (Polly) Aossey and Sophie (John) Lafferty, all of Cedar Rapids, and Kamel (Patty) Aossey of Minnetonka, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She will be fondly remembered by dear friends Chip and Judy Lingo, with whom she and Barb enjoyed many winters in Acapulco.
A private service for immediate family members will be held at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre with burial in Muslim National Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a time in the future when we can all gather safely again.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
The family is eternally grateful for the loving care given Lucille by the entire staff at the Hospice Home with special thanks to her nurses, Joel and Brenda.
