Bruce Edward Kubik, 72, walked away from his earthly journey to heaven to join his Lord and was reunited with family and friends. Those
who knew him knew he
loved a good party; we are sure he was surrounded by a host of Angels to celebrate
his arrival.
Bruce was born Aug. 25, 1948, to Edward R. and Ester A. (Woehlk) Kubik in Waterloo, Iowa. He has one sister, Monica (Steve) Caslavka; and one nephew, Shawn (Ashley) Caslavka. He was raised in Hudson until he graduated and moved to Des Moines, where he received his degree in electronics technology in 1968 from United Electronics Institute.
Bruce had the "Gift of Gab" and started working for Dictaphone Corporation in 1968 as a sales rep selling dictation equipment in the Des Moines area. As a side job he worked at the Lutheran Hospital fixing TVs, where he met his first wife, Karen S. Schuster, who was working as a Candy Striper in the hospital. They married May 2, 1970, in Des Moines. They moved to Fort Dodge to continue his career, then to Cedar Rapids in 1972 when Bruce received a management position with Dictaphone. He was well-known in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area from his career with Dictaphone as a sales manager for over 40 years. In his career, he was awarded over 30 trips for his sales achievements. Bruce started Kubik's Voice Solutions in 2008, before retiring and selling the business in 2014.
Bruce and Karen had three children, Chad Kubik, who passed shortly after birth, Amy (Richard) Kubik-Hasley and Bryan (Stephanie) Kubik; and have five grandchildren, Ashley Hasley, Travis Hasley, Emily Kubik, Jayson Kubik and Ellie Carver.
Karen's angels called her to be with the Lord Sept. 9, 2002. Karen has one, sister, Linda Schuster; and her mom, Betty lived to be 100 and passed a few days before Bruce on Nov. 29, 2020. Bruce continued to stay close with Karen's family over the years.
John Kubik's daughter, Jenn, set Bruce up on a blind date with Kathy Makinster and they married May 16, 2009. This extended the family even more, adding two daughters, Sara (Bob) Hennessy and Lisa (Brent) Meyers; and 11 grandchildren, Emma, Rachel, Grace Hennessy, Bryleigh, Reagan, McKenna, Olivia Decker, Ella Meyers, Ezra, Atkins and Ismaiah Meyers.
Kathy has a big family with many brothers and sisters, Bruce loved being part of that extended family. They had large Christmas gatherings, with lots of laughter and fun. Bruce and Kathy loved to travel together with family and friends. They truly lived life together to the fullest!
Bruce was a family man! He loved being involved and supporting his kids and grandkids during their activities. He was no doubt their biggest fan! He enjoyed talking to everyone. He often was found socializing with all the other neighbors for hours which sometimes turned into garage parties. Bruce's smile and lively personality were contagious. He loved people and treated everyone like family. He loved to tease people who would ask about how tall he was and say 5'20 to guess that he was 6'8. You may have heard Bruce yell "Go Hawks" many times as he was a huge fan. He was active in the Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School "chain gang" for 20 years during football games. Bruce enjoyed the football game days with family and friends. He was also known for the best lawn in the neighborhood.
Bruce loved his church and often volunteered as a greeter and usher on Sunday. He was a member of First Lutheran, Cedar Rapids for over 40 years, he also attended Orchard Hill, Cedar Falls.
The family wishes to thank Hiawatha Care Center for the loving care he received.
A private family funeral service will be held at
the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the service can be viewed at client.tribucast.com/tcid/6363820, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, starting at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bruce's honor to First Lutheran Church Cedar Rapids.
Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
