Margaret Ellen Newman, 60, of Amherst, N.Y., formerly of Marion and Bettendorf, died Monday in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y. Graveside services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. There will be no visitation. Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Jr.; two daughters Norma Jean Edsill of Mason City and Julia Pheteplace of Vestal, N.Y.; and a sister, Betty McCarthy of West Barnstable, Mass.
Also surviving are four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Lange.
Born the daughter of Jesse and Norma Owen Howell on July 4, 1931, in Washington, Iowa, she married Harold Thomas Newman Jr. on June 20, 1949. She was a 1949 graduate of Marion High School. Margaret was a member of DAR and Descendants of the Mayflower. She enjoyed playin the piano.
