Jesse B. Howell, 66, Marion, Dies
Jesse Brooke Howell, 66, of 1580 Eighth avenue, a Marion attorney for 23 years, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Marion.
Mr. Howell was born Feb. 2, 1890, at Iowa City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Howell. He was educated in Iowa City schools and attended the University of Iowa, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He also attended the University of Michigan and returned to SUI to receive a degree from the college of law.
Mr. Howell was a member of the Iowa national guard and a captain of company I, 54th regiment; he was president of the Iowa City Shipping Association; a member of the Linn county Bar Association and former president of the Marion Lions club.
He was affiliated with the Marion Congregational church. Survivors include his wife, the former Norma Owen, to whom he was married in 1916 at Marion; three daughters, Mrs. James (Betty) McCarthy, Chappaqua, N.Y.; Mrs. William (Mary) Lange and Mrs. Harold T. (Ellen) Neuman; eight grandchildren and a brother, Dr. E.B. Howell at Ottumwa.
The body is at the Murdoch funeral home where services are being arranged.
