CEDAR RAPIDS MAN KILLED UNDER TRAIN
R.A. Moore Struck by Passenger While Switching at Siding.
Hugh A. Moore, 40 years old, of Cedar Rapids, a brakeman on a C.R. I. & P. freight was instantly killed shortly after 4 o'clock Friday afternoon when he was struck by a passenger train near Farnam siding a short distance outside the Davenport city limits at Hickory Grove road.
Moore stepped in the path of a Davenport-bound passenger train while he was signaling his own engineer whose train was not moving. Moore's body was hurled several feed and practically every bone was broken. The body was brought to Davenport by members of the train crew.
Coroner J.D. Cantwell will hold an inquest next week.
Mr. Moore was born Aug. 16, 1885 in Osage City, Kan. He came to the Tri-cities nine years ago, but after his marriage to Miss Minnie Penrod at Nashua, Ia., March 6, 1924, went to live in Cedar Rapids.
He became well known to a large number of railroadmen during 12 year's service as a conductor and brakeman for the Rock Island lines. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a member of Island City lodge No. 11? Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
His widow survives as does one son, Marmaduke Moore, of Kansas city. His mother, Mrs. Agnes Moore, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Lawson and Mrs. Anna May Bryan, all of Osage City, and four brothers are living. They are John, of Denver; Thomas of San Francisco; William, of Colton, Okla., and Tilford, of Silvis.
Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Runge chapel. The body will be sent to Cedar Rapids where services will be held Monday afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
