Mrs. John Cone failed to survive the results of the explosion that occurred Wednesday noon at her home, 1009 Eleventh street, dying in a Cedar Rapids hospital Friday night, June 27 at 10:30 o'clock. She was born as Muriel Onstott, February 29, 1888, at Mechanicsville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Onstott, and was married in Denver, Colorado, in April, 1912, to John Cone. There are no children, but surviving besides the husband are three brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Peark Kirkhart and Jesse W. Onstott, of Pamona, California, Gene Onstott of Yankton, S.D., Clyde Onstott, of Mechanicsville, and Mrs. Jane Chapman of St. Louis, Mo. The Cones have made their home in Marion since their marriage, and she was energetically connected with many civic and social activities of the community., Marion Chapter No. 183, O.E.S., the garden club, the Octo club, Electa Chapter of the Kings Daughters, the Ivanhoe club, Milwaukee Women's club, Ladies auxiliary of Railway Trainmen.
Sunday afternoon a largely attended funeral service was held from the Yocom chapel with the Revv. C.V.R. DeJong pastor of the Marion Presbyterian church, in charge. The ritual service of the O.E.S. was also used. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. The acting pallbearers were Fred Holsinger, E.C. Ainley, Charles Hayner, Fred Newlin, Ralph Kendall, and J.A. Neff. Out-of-town relatives were Clyde Onstott and Mrs. Ina Onstott of Mechanicsville, Mrs. Jane Chapman, of St. Louis, Gene Onstott of Yankton, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Shumack, and Mrs. Harold Rowe and their daughter daughter, Jeanne, of Cedar Rapids.
