Marion Weekly Sentinel Thursday April 29, 1920
Henry Straley, a long time resident of Marion, passed away Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at his home, 807 Seventh Avenue. He has been in frail health for several years, and not able to get out all winter, but his condition became serious about three weeks ago.
Born in Ohio, on December 26, 1847[sic], but coming to Iowa with his parents at an early age, the greater part of his life has been spent here. The family settled in the neighborhood of Wesley Chapel. In 1879 Mr. Straley and Harriet M. White were united in marriage and located on a farm, but in 1882 came to Marion, where he was engaged in the livery and feed business. He retired from an active business life about ten years ago. He was a quiet, unpretentious man, but was held in highest regard by all who knew him. Early in the year, Mr. and Mrs. Straley celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with all their children except one present. Mr. Straley is survived by his wife, his four children, Frank E., of Marion; Will L. of Graybull, Wyo.; A.W., of Roundup, Mont.; and Daisy, who has remained at home with her parents, also four grandchildren and a brother, C.M. Straley of Jessup, Iowa. A sister, Mrs. S.B. Gillin, of Hudson, died just four weeks ago.
No arrangements will be made for the funeral until the sons, who live in the west, are heard from.
